If you get off the trail and find yourself in a pond and the only way to go farther is by venturing down a passageway so narrow that you must pull yourself through the mangroves, you are heading in the wrong direction. Also, most of the trail is out in the open, so bring sunscreen if avoiding the sun is of importance to you. The lake, which I will call Lard Can Lake for lack of a better name, starts at around the 3.5-mile point on the trail, and you won’t exit it until three quarters of a mile later. Add Photos.
